On the occasion of World Food Day, which fell on June 5th, a special joint environmental conservation program organized by the Neluwa Pradeshiya Sabha was successfully held on 05.06.2026, with the aim of enhancing environmental security and controlling the spread of dengue in the area.
Implemented under the guidance and direction of the Honorable Chairman and Secretary of the Neluwa Pradeshiya Sabha, this noble initiative received the full cooperation of the Neluwa Divisional Secretariat, the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) Office, the Neluwa Police Station, and the youth from the Neluwa National Youth Corps Center.
Three main programs were carried out during this initiative, including a dengue prevention shramadana campaign to clean up premises, a “Garbage Fair” program conducted to regularize waste management in the area, and a special cleaning project to collect and remove non-biodegradable polythene and plastic waste from both sides of the main roads.
This successful effort, jointly carried out by local government institutions and the youth community, has been a great strength in maintaining the Neluwa area as a clean and healthy zone. The Neluwa Pradeshiya Sabha extends its utmost gratitude and appreciation to all the officials of the institutions who contributed to this cause.
