Overview

It is a fertile area of 153 square kilometers with 34 village official domains belonging to Hiniduma constituency in the Galle administrative district of Kali Southern Province, which was the Neluwa local council.

Km from Galle city. Located at a distance of 63 kilometers from the north-eastern border, Neva local council area is bordered by Ratnapura district to the north, Katara district and Thawalama local council area to the west, and Matara district to the east and south.

In the past, the Neva local council area was considered as one of the most difficult areas in Galle district, but it can also be described as a very important area in terms of natural beauty. The Sinharaja forest spread over several districts in the southern part of Sri Lanka has also been inherited by Nepawa Pradeshiya Sabha area. The Sinharaja Forest, which has been designated as a World Heritage (Natural*) ecologically has a high biodiversity. According to the topography and drainage pattern, the area of Nepava Regional Council has a very attractive and beautiful environment, and the river Ging flows through the area. It gives the area a scenic look and importance.And a special point is the Wili Falls falling close to the Sinharaja Reserve.It has added a new value to Sinharaja and the bathing pool built around it has been praised by local and foreign tourists.

About 31,000 people belonging to different races live in this area, and the main source of income here is tea cultivation. Paddy cultivation is also widely spread in this area, rubber coconut and cinoman plantations are also found.

The administration of this jurisdiction was under the village council system, and two village councils, namely Neluwa and Dellawa, existed until 1981. Later, the Galle District Development Council was established on 01.07.1981 by the Development Council Act No. 15 of 1980. Under that, it was run under the name of Neluwa Development Council School and Dellawa Development Council School in this jurisdiction.

After that, from 01.01.1988, by the Regional Council Act No. 15 of 1987, the Neluwa Regional Council and the Dellawa sub-office were established under it. At that time the governing powers of the local council were under a special commissioner.
