Doowili Ella

Doowili Ella

Doowili Ella is the main tourism spot in the Neluwa tourism zone. This tourism spot is developed and maintained by the Neluwa Local Government council and southern Provincial Council. It has received great attention of both local and international tourists. This is not a single waterfall but a network of three waterfalls. This is about 100 feet in height and gets its name because of the water vapour that sprays throughout the waterfall that resembles dust (Doowili). The beauty of this waterfall can be witnessed during most part of the year because it is formed from a stream of water that begins at the Sinharaja rainforest reservation which is also a world heritage site. In order to reach the highest point of the waterfall a stairway with a safety fence has been built and as such a person of any age reach that point safely. Because this waterfall has about 6 acres of forest reservation, many of the plants and animal species inherent to Sinharaja rainforest can be seen here as well. Below the waterfall there are 2 ponds that have been built without any disturbance to its natural beauty for both adult and children bathe in.
